Corps of women soldiers marching, amongst the ranks is the eldest daughter of the Kowalski family. The son and the father in the ranks of the army. Various shots showing Mrs Kowalski busy at work in the refugee camp. The two youngest children are seen at open-air school. Montage of close up shots of the Kowalskis walking, arriving to Persia and walking in their brigades. Amendment July 2016: A visitor to the site has informed us about the following history of Polish refugees in Persia: Thousands of Poles were deported to the USSR in 1940-1, after the Red Army invaded Poland. Following the outbreak of the Soviet-German war in June 1941, talks began between Stalin and the Polish government in exile. These concluded with the signing of the Sikorski-Mayski agreement (30 July 1941). In August 1941, Soviet authorities issued an “amnesty” decree for Polish citizens. The Polish-Soviet agreement enabled the Polish Embassy to resume operations, and gave Polish people an opportunity to leave their places of exile. Moreover, it created a legal basis for the formation of the Polish Army in the USSR, under the command of Gen. Wladyslaw Anders (hence the name Anders’ Army). The army was a component of the Polish Armed Forces, subordinate to the government in London. The Polish Army (app. 76,000 people) was evacuated to Iran in 1942, along with around 40,000 Polish civilians. It was then that settlements were created for the civilians in Africa, Iran, India, Palestine, Mexico and New Zealand. FILM ID:1073.02 A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ. Persia is originally the name of a region in Iran. See: Fars Province and Persis. Parts of Bushehr, Kohgiluye&Boyer-Ahmad and the western half of Hormozgan may aso be included. # Persia is a pars pro toto Western name for Iran. It was used from ancient times until 1935. Since 1949, both the terms "Persia" and "Iran" can be used officially. (See also: Iran naming convention.) * The Persian Empire of ancient and medieval times The Persian Empire was a series of successive Iranian or Iraniate empires that ruled over the Iranian plateau, the original Persian homeland, and beyond in Western Asia, South Asia, Central Asia and the Caucasus.[1] The first Persian Empire formed under the Median Empire (728559 BC) after defeating and ending the Assyrian Empire with the help of Babylonians. The Achaemenid Persian Empire (550330 BC) was the largest empire of the ancient world and it reached its greatest extent under Darius the Great and Xerxes the Great — famous in antiquity as the foe of the classical Greek states (See Greco-Persian Wars). It was a united Persian kingdom that originated in the region now known as Pars province (Fars province) of Iran. It was formed under Cyrus the Great, who took over the empire of the Medes, and conquered much of the Middle East, including the territories of the Babylonians, Assyrians, the Phoenicians, and the Lydians. Cambyses, Son of Cyrus the Great, continued his conquests by conquering Egypt. The Achaemenid Persian Empire was ended during the Wars of Alexander the Great, but Persian Empire arose again under the Parthian and Sassanid Empires of Iran, followed by Iranian post-Islamic Empires like Tahirids, Saffarids, Buyids, Samanids, Ghaznavids, Seljuks, Khwarezmshahids and Safavids, up to the modern day Iran. Most of the successive states in Greater Iran prior to March 1935 are collectively called the Persian Empire by Western historians. Virtually all the successor empires of Persia were major regional and some major international powers in their day.. ( wikipedia)

Travel video about destination Persia. Invasions, battles and revolutions always dictated the numerous great empires which developed on Persian soil and the kingdom of Meder was the country’s first great empire, with Hamedan its capital and one of its oldest, continuously inhabited cities. Although the Achaemenid made Hamedan one of its summer residences, they also built their headquarters there, a sprawling city system in the form of a large camp. Dareios The Great began construction of Persepolis shortly after he had attained power as Third Emperor of Persia. Although he already had two capital cities, Pasargadae and Susa, he wanted to present to the world a third impressive city. During several decades of construction the glorious total work of Persian-Achaemenid art was achieved. Todays ruins, former residence of the Achaemenid Empire, are one of the greatest and most impressive palace complexes in the world. From the Middle Ages, Shiraz had a well-developed network of quantum, underground drains that continue to nourish a number of gardens. The Mongols left Shiraz undamaged but the Afghans conquered, destroyed and looted the city until finally a Kurd, Karim Khan Zand, established a trading centre there, protected by a citadel, which became the capital of his empire. After Teheran and Yazd, Kerman has the third largest community of followers of the teachings of Zarathustra, with attendant fire temples. The Ganj Ali Khan Complex has a large courtyard with a water pool and is framed by arcade passages, a mosque, caravanserai, bath house and bazaar. Shiite Islam became the state religion and several golden dynasties followed until Persia became an empire with a long and remarkable history. -------------- Watch more travel videos ► http://goo.gl/HYQdhg Join us.
